The Southern New England Model Railroad Club is a two-rail O Scale model railroad club located in Gardner Massachusetts. We are currently constructing a 40' by 65' permanent layout. Most of the track and digital command control wiring is in place which allows us to hold monthly operating sessions. Scenery, a second staging yard and structures continue to be added.
New Members are welcome! We have a work session most Wednesday nights from 7pm to 10pm and an occasional Saturday work session. See our "Calendar" page on the web site for current activities. Stop by if you are in the area and check us out. We also have an annual Fall Train Show, Spring Open House, monthly operating sessions, participate in the "Tour de Chooch", and hold a bi-monthly business meeting for members.
The railroad is a fictitious line named after the ill-fated Southern New England RR (referred to as the "Titanic Railroad"), running loosely from eastern Pennsylvania to Massachusetts and Rhode Island. A double track main line accommodates through trains and generates freight traffic from many online industries. Locomotives are serviced and trains are switched in the "Roland Roberts" main yard and then dispersed to other locations throughout the rail system.
The state of the art design provides a linear walk-around model railroad using the "mushroom" techniques to greatly increase running length (850'). It's a great design and continues to provide interesting model railroad construction and operating opportunities for the membership.
Anyone interested in visiting or possibly becoming a member should contact the Membership Chairman on the "Contact Us" page.
The Southern New England Model Railroad Club has sponsored the O Scale National Conventions in 1998, 2008, 2013, and will host the 2017 O Scale National Convention in June. Our portable layout was also displayed at the NMRA National Convention in Hartford CT in July 2009 where the layout won the Best in Show and Chairman's Awards
